All counselors in an educational setting are welcome to join the New Mexico School Counselor Association (NMSCA). This includes all elementary, middle, high school or post-secondary counselors. NMSCA is a division of the New Mexico Counseling Association. To join NMSCA you will need to join NMCA and select NMSCA as your desired division. You may join online by clicking here.

Membership in the New Mexico Counseling Association is open to persons whose primary responsibilities or interests are in the counseling or human development field and who recognize that all people routinely need help and advisement as they experience the normal stages and transitions of life. Counselors and human development specialists help people of all ages, cultures, and physical capabilities reach their maximum potential in their personal lives, their education and their career.

There are four types of membership in NMCA

Professional members: Professional members hold a master's degree or higher in counseling or a closely related field from an institution that was accredited when the degree was awarded by one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. Professional members must present proof of academic credentials upon request.
Regular members: are individuals whose interests and activities are consistent with those of the association, but are not qualified for professional membership.
Retired members: are eligible for continued membership at a reduced fee if they have retired from the profession of counseling.
Students: are eligible for membership if they are enrolled in a minimum of six graduate credit hours or nine undergraduate credit hours per semester leading toward a degree in counseling or a counseling related field. Verification by the student and the student's professor is required

Membership Fees

Professional/Regular membership includes one division for $60.00. If more than one division is desired, add $15.00 for each additional division. Retired/Student membership includes one division for $30.00. If more than one division is desired, add $15.00 for each additional division.

Memberships are renewed annually. Members receive renewal notices on the anniversary date of their joining the association. Membership cards and certificates are mailed to members.
