National Center for Transforming School Counseling at The Education Trust (NCTSC)
The NCTSC is a nation-wide network of organizations, state departments of education, school counselor professional associations, institutions of higher education and school districts currently involved in the transforming school counseling initiative. Through the center, the networked sites form a community of influence to transform the field of school counseling into a force for promoting standards-based education reform. The National Center for Transforming School Counseling will place practicing school counselors at the heart of the new mission of schools – to educate ALL students to high levels.
The National Center for Transforming School Counseling:
- Conducts professional development workshops for practicing school counselors in the new vision and skills demanded in standards-based school systems;
- Works to transform of counselor preparation programs in higher education;
- Collects, analyzes and disseminates research on effective school counseling practices;
- Works with state departments of education to align policies with NCTSC principles;
- Convenes meetings and conferences with network partners and constituent groups to champion the cause of school counselor reform and equity in education;
- Produces publications, press releases, data tools, syllabi, and policy statements that build capacity and promote this national movement.
The Center for School Counseling Outcome Research
The Center for School Counseling Outcome Research is dedicated to improving the practice of school counseling by developing the research base that is necessary for responsible and effective practice. The Center provides national leadership in the measurement and evaluation of the outcomes of school counseling interventions and programs. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts , the Center helps K-12 leaders and practitioners use research findings and methods to improve school counseling practice by enabling them to set standards, establish benchmarks, implement evidence-based interventions, measure student learning outcomes, and evaluate program effectiveness.
Carve Your Path (the New Mexico Electronic Student Management System) is designed to help students prepare for college or careers upon graduation from high school.
The New Mexico College Success Network
The College Success Network’s mission is to create a stronger New Mexico by connecting a network of leaders to ensure our youth have the preparation, information and resources will better prepare underrepresented student populations for entering and succeeding in college. The outcome of the campaign will dramatically change the way New Mexicans think about education and will dramatically increase the number of New Mexico Students that complete high school go onto and succeed in college. Increasing college access and completion rates for young people in the state will enhance economic development, civic participation and create a better quality of life in New Mexico.
Currently, CSN is engaged with a grant driven college access and career exploration campaign roped around a statewide college and career planning tool (web-portal). This campaign encompasses the NMHED, NMPED, NMDWS and other state departments best practices, CSN and our outreach partners, IT resources, state mandated Next Step plan, college and career strategies to collectively develop, build and implement a statewide college and career planning tool available to the students, parents, educators and citizens of New Mexico.
CSN in conjunction with NMPED and secondary schools will continue to expand CSN’s existing scholarship database to provide students with a comprehensive list of local and regional scholarships through a dynamic scholarship query tool. This tool will serve all segments of our very diverse population and will be housed and maintained by CSN and offered through the web portal.
New Mexico Career Resource Network
The New Mexico Career Resource Network provides an online version of the Prospect Newspaper, which is published by the New Mexico Department of Labor. This is a useful tool for students to explore career, education and military opportunities. The site provides links to interest inventories, New Mexico labor information and all two and four year post-secondary schools in the state.
The National Career Development Association
The National Career Development Association (NCDA) is a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA). The mission of NCDA is to promote the career development of all people over the life span. To achieve this mission, NCDA provides service to the public and professionals involved with or interested in career development, including professional development activities, publications, research, public information, professional standards, advocacy, and recognition for achievement and service.
